How does God Relate to Time?
by Imraan
I’ve seldom come across a philosopher more accessible and clear in speech than Dr Stump. This is well worth the watch and a think about.
Can anyone recommend any of her texts (so I can add it/them to my ever increasing-in-length reading list!)
I watched this yesterday but didn’t have time to comment. I agree with your praise of her clarity of explanation. A fascinating clip and I will look out for Eleonore Stump again, time permitting. Thank you for sharing this.
Dear sister,
Thank you kindly for your comment. Alas, I’m struggling to find much on her (though the website/series of ‘Closer to Truth’ has a few clips of hers!); because her work seems to concern classic (Catholic) writers…though as I move into reading more stuff by St Thomas I’m sure she’ll provide wonderful commentary.
Her other videos again demonstrate the excellence of her clarity – maybe it’s something to do with that analytic mode of philosophy but they’re very careful about conflating things that ought not be, or confusing meanings and so forth (and given her religious sentiments she’s clearly not a positivist, thank heavens)… I’ve sort of been fed a small but regular diet of the Continentals… as much as I enjoy a Foucault or a Gadamer or Heidegger etc. , they’re quite a slog sometimes to get through or to heaven hear lectures about. I’m thus not sure if Stump is a minority from within the Thomist/Analytic schools (if I have categorised her correctly…)
By the way, you are most welcome. Sharing the gift of knowledge is a blessing in itself, no?
Absolutely :-)
